Finishing touches

Location: CIT
Date: 30/11/2009
Time: 13.00
Present: Amanda, Isabel, Julie and siobhan.

We have added the content to our site so it is now time to look at the pages with the content included and decide the best visual layout for each page.  We need to balance out the look of the pages to reach a consistent feel throughout the site.  This can be done to a certain degree but on a few of the pages there has been a need for mini pages to include the amount of information needed.  For this reason there will be slight difference in the pages but will still have a consistent look.  We feel the slight differences and the mini pages adds interest and style to the site.

We are considering the options for renaming the home sweet home page as it is very similar to the home page.  This is proving harder than we thought as we are aiming at various students and not just ones in student accomodation.

We are trying to add images to the pages to suit the topic.  As we are aware of the style we are keeping the images to a minimum and keeping them appropriate.  We feel the images add interest to the topics and keep the user engaged in the site.

At this point we are paying attention to detail in our pages.  We are ensuring that each page has the same font type and all the headings and subheadings have the same style such as bold.  We are  also proof reading each page and ensuring that the content is spelt correctly.

Working Progress

Date: 26/11/09
Time: 14:02
Location: Isabel's house
Present: Julie, Siobhan, Amanda, Isabel

We are currently sorting out the layout of the website. We are aiming for simplicity with catchy features. We have found that the features of Wix are so numerous that is it very easy to clutter the page. We are working on making it clear and concise. We want the layout to be fun but very easy to navigate.

We entered the content we previously researched into our website. We are now also combining the information we researched for the accommodation and health and fitness page.

We are finalising the text content for each page and ensuring the overall design including the text blends together throughout the website.

Who Does What?

Date: 23/11/2009
Time: 10.36
Present: Amanda, siobhan, julie and Isabel

We have all agreed on an overall theme for our site.  This theme is a student table as we are hoping to appeal to any student with a worry or problem.  we hope this will provide some information needed and comfort in a stressful time.

We want to keep our design fun, and simple.  we decided as a group from the start that we would include no bells and whistles as they do not have anything to do with our theme.  We have strong teamwork skills in our group and have consistently agreed on all aspects of the layout and content of the site.

As there is a large amount of information we decided to divide up the pages to research the content of the page.

Julie has researched information for the stressed out page
Siobhan has researched information for the Skint page
Amanda has researched information for the Stay Safe page
Isabel has researched information for the Addiction page

We have to decide on content for the rest of our pages.  We have some aspects of this done but need to expand on this information more.

Items for our next meeting
As the design for our site is complete we just need to concentreate on the smaller details and the content.

More content development

Date: 16/11/09
Time: 12.55
Present: Amanda, Julie, Siobhan and Isabel
Location: College

Since our last meeting we aimed to have each page more clearly defined and images and text for each page collected.  We researched content for a number of the pages and have more of an idea of what each page is going to include.

Since the last meeting we have discussed different features for our website and what it we want to do.  We are clear on the fact that this website is aimed at students with worries and problems.  We are focusing on the problems that students have in college that we feel cause the most worry.  We are going to have an easy to navigate, easy to understand site with helpful information and tips on the various problems students face today.

The fact that this site is aimed at all students and doesn't focus on a particular college or school or region we feel it is a place for all students to go to get information, advice and share their views and experiences.

We have decided to use a catchy slang term for each page, these will be visible on the navigation buttons.  The names we chose for our pages are:

  • Home

  • Stressed Out

  • Health Freak

  • Skint

  • Addicted

  • Stay safe

  • Home Sweet Home

  • Make Contact

We want to incorporate elements of certain colours on certain pages to suit the theme of that page but will need to wait until we see it on screen to see if this will look well.  The colours we had in mind were:

Green for the Stressed Out page for calming

Red for the Addiction page for warning

Yellow for the Stay Safe page for Caution

Blue for the Skint page for relaxation

Orange for the Health Freak page for energy

Lavender for the Accomodation page for homely

We will have the navigation buttons for the pages matching the colour scheme for their page.

For the next meeting we intend to have further content for each of the pages and have started the design and layout on screen.  We have chosen to work with www.wix.com to develop our web site as we find it has the features we need to implement our design.

Content Development

Date: 10/11/09
Time: 9.00pm
Location; Isabel's House
Present: Isabel, Julie, Siobhan, Amanda

Items from our last meeting were developing the layout of our web site and the content of each page. We also needed look at various colour schemes and decide colours that would best suit our web site.

We put a lot of thought into various features for our web site but unfortunately the workload and some of the features we wanted to include were not feasible so we had to rethink our web site further. We were initially including overlapping pages that we could combine into fewer topics.

We have since rethought our approach to our web site since a questions and answers forum style was not possible. We are now providing helpful information on various topics associated with personal problems that affect students, under the following headings

1. Homepage
2. Stressed
3. Health and fitness
4. Money worries
5. Drugs and alcohol
6. Accommodation
7. Student safety

These headings will each have sub- headings which have yet to be decided. Each page has a theme and a colour scheme to match the mood of the topic in question.

For our next meeting we are all going to consider each page in the site map and try to research relevant content for each page and consider the style and layout of each page.

Site Map

Date: 03/11/09

Time: 21:45
Location: Isabel's House
Present: Julie O'Leary, Amanda Murphy and Isabel Rossiter and Siobhan O'Sullivan
Absent: None

We decided on our last meeting the items that we needed to complete for our next meeting were the pages we would include in our website. We wrote out all our ideas for a site map on rough paper and then categorized them. We came up with numerous ideas but we reluctantly narrowed them down to eight categories excluding the home page. We deemed this suitable as we could now divide our work evenly throughout the group. We decided on the following categories:

1. Home Page
2. Accommodation
3. Cleaning Tips
4. Fitness
5. Healthy Living
6. Money Management
7. Night Life
8. Personal
9. Transport

For the next meeting we need to consider colour schemes for our website and the layout of each page. We need to research various forum sites.
